Pay And Benefits

Still Seeking G.I. Bill Tweaks - Whats Up: Eligibility rules for reservists to qualify for more generous active - duty G.I. Bill education benefits would be relaxed under a bill introduced by Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D - Minn. Under her proposal, any reservist called up for at least 20 consecutive months who spends a year or longer in a combat zone would qualify for the active - duty benefits. Under current rules, reservists must be mobilized for 730 consecutive days, which excludes just about all reservists because the normal maximun deployment is 15 months. Even members of a guard unit from Klobuchar's home state that just pulled a 16 month tour in Iraq are ineligible.
